History

The Department of Commerce began its journey in 1991 when education was uncharted for women. Today, as women break barriers and soar to new educational heights. The Department has adopted Choice Based Credit System and grading system since 2015-2016. After attaining autonomous status in 2015-16, the department has been actively involved in curriculum design and development process through Board of Studies as per UGC norms, duly considering the feedback obtained from the stakeholders. By aligning with both local and global needs. The Department of Commerce has become a cornerstone of our college, boasting both a robust student body and a dedicated faculty. In the year 1996 B.Com Computer Application started and this illustrious department achieved a significant milestone in the academic year 2016-17, when it was elevated to a Postgraduate Centre with the introduction of the M.Com program along with seven sanctioned lecturer positions the department thrives, attracting over the girl students across the East Godavari , Kakinada, Konaseema, and Alluri Seetharama Raju districts. From 2023-2024 onwards adopting NEP 2020 the department started offering B.Com., Honors General and Computer Applications (EM) under Single Major System.

The Department has a good ecosystem that ensures multifaceted development of the students with

  • Department of Commerce possessed with rich infrastructure like Virtual Class Room and computers to integrate ICT based teaching learning process.
  • The Department of Commerce recognised as Research Centre since 2023-24
  • All the faculty in Department of Commerce immerse with students and encourage them to participate various events and competitions.
  • The Department of Commerce scattering all the needs of the stake holders by organising Guest    Lectures, seminars, workshops, student cantered activities which are the need of the hour.
  • On the beginning of every Academic year the Department of commerce organising an Induction programme to newly admitted students for create friendly eco system with college.
  • The department conducts Bridge course to bridge the gap between non-commerce background students to Commerce students, Remedial classes to slow learners, encourage advance learners to prepare study project, certificate courses to meet the market needs regularly.
  • The faculty of the department stand as a Mentor to the students and council the students to face  deliberately the toughest age group in the student life under Mentor Mentee system.
  • Department undertake community extension programme through Consumer awareness programmes and CSP Projects.
  • The Department of commerce regularly conducts parent teacher meet to update student progression to parents.
