The institution has dedicated itself to the service of society by educating girl students and preparing professional educators for all levels. It is one of the premier institutions in the area.

We have a long history of excellence and repute and have a solemn commitment to address ourselves vigorously to the needs arising from a dynamic and rapidly changing society by aligning ourselves to the requirement of the new age of teaching, conducting research, disseminating new knowledge and developing application for existing knowledge. We also believe in preparing life-long learners who are able to apply their knowledge in a cross cultural and diverse society.

A.S.D. Government Degree College for Women, Kakinada was started with the motto: ‘Sthree Vidya Pravardhatam’ – ‘Women Education Shall Prosper’. The idea came up with the inspiring words :

“A Man’s education being the education of an Individual,

a Women’s education is the education of a Family”

The College made a humble beginning in the year 1962 with the efforts of the eminent women personalities of the town who constituted into a committee called ‘Women’s education society of Kakinada’. The committee handed over the College to the Annavaram Devasthanam Trust in the year 1963 and it was managed by the Trust Board for about five years. Subsequently, in the year 1968 the College was taken over by the Govt.of Andhra Pradesh. Recognized by the UGC, under section 2(f) and 12B in 1972, it transitioned from a composite to a degree college in 1997. Then onwards it has been named as ‘A.S.D.Government Degree College for Women, Kakinada’. Accredited by NAAC with grades B+, B, and B in 2005, 2011 and 2018 respectively. The institution was granted Autonomous Status in 2015-16, which has been extended till 2025-2026. Initially affiliated to Andhra University until 2014, it is now affiliated to Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajamahendravaram. The institution is in a prime location of Kakinada town with campus area of 7.16 acres.

The College has 19 classrooms, 10 well equipped laboratories and 2 Museums. A computerized library has 32,796 textbooks. The College has the facility 3 Digital Classrooms, 3 Virtual Classrooms, 7 LCD Projectors, 12 broadband connections with bandwidth ranging from 40 Mbps to 300 Mbps for facilitating ICT based teaching-learning. Residential facilities on campus include two hostels, (Student managed Hostel and Social Welfare hostel) accommodating approximately 360 students. The institution has 46 full time faculty, 26 non-teaching staff and 1029 students. The college offered 07 conventional courses, 03 Self-finance courses and 03 Market-Oriented courses of Arts, Commerce and Sciences in UG till 2022-2023. From the Academic year 2023-24 onwards, Honours programmes with Single Major have been introduced in the college following the NEP 2020. At present, 14 Under Graduate Honours programmes are being offered, viz., B.Sc.(Mathematics), B.Sc.(ComputerScience), B.Sc.(Physics), B.Sc.(Chemistry),B.Sc.(Botany),B.Sc.(Zoology), B.Sc.(Microbiology), B.Sc.(Home Science), B.Com(General), B.Com(Computer Applications), B.Com(Banking Insurance and Financial Marketing), B.A.(Economics), B.A.(Political Science) and B.A.(History).M.A.(Special Telugu), M.Com., M.Sc.(Organic Chemistry) are offered as Post Graduation Programmes.

The Institution has embarked upon Outcome Based Education. The institution focuses upon Skill development through Experiential learning among the students through Internships, Certificate courses, Skill Development Training courses in collaboration with Govt. organizations,CISCO and NGOs. Students are encouraged to complete MOOCs Courses offered through Coursera, Udemy,Infosys Springboard and other Online platforms available. Jawahar Knowledge Centre(JKC) of the College imparts training for promoting employability skills and organizes Campus Drives. In accordance with NEP 2020, the Institution takes all the initiatives to foster Indian Knowledge System. The Institution has an Operational NCC Unit under 3(A) Girls Bn, Kakinada and 2 NSS Units with enrolment of 200 students dedicated to community service.
