About the Telugu Department:

              The Department of Telugu was started eversince the inception of the College i.e., in 1962. During the last 63 years, eminent personalities and authors like V.Subrahmanyam, Sivalenka Prakasa Rao, Dr.C.Kanakayya and many other eminent teachers rendered their valuable service to this Department.

                The Department conducts many Cultural & Literary events and competitions on various occasions like ‘Telugu Bhasha Dinotsvam’ and 'Mathru Bhasha Dinotsavam' to encourage the language. Department celebrates renowned poets anniversaries in Telugu Literature like Sri Gurajada, Sri Chilakamarthi, Sri Vemanaand Sri GurramJashuva etc. every year.  Students are trained by the Department to take part in co-curricular activities like quiz, debate, essay writing, elocution, group discussion, poetry recitation, cultural & literary activities conducted in the College and also by other Colleges and Social organizations. The Department conducted certificate courses in Classical Dance, Research Methodology and Research Methodology in Telugu.

 Faculty members of the department enhance their knowledge in the latest developments in their respective field of study by attending Seminars, Workshops and Refresher courses. They act as subject experts, resource persons, and consultants for various organisations. The alumni of the department are settled in various professions such as Teachers, Lecturers, Junior Assistants, Administrative Officers in Government and Non-Government organisations.

The program curriculum is designed in such a way that it encourages students to think critically, analyse information, and evaluate arguments, enhancing their ability to make iacurate decisions. Throughout the course students are taught to analyze complex issues, identify patterns, and draw conclusions, which are valuable in problem-solving and decision making. Programs require self-discipline and motivation to complete assignments and helps in fostering a sense of personal responsibility.

A student who completes Degree with THP group acquires knowledge in Special Telugu, History, and Political Science. It also Enhances employability skills in fields of Teaching, Print Media, Electronic Media, Translations, Creative writing and in attempting Competitive Exams. A student can improve Leadership Skills, Personality Development through Telugu literature and can become a responsible citizen.

Courses offered

B.A.THP & M.A Programmes:  These Programmes are designed to foster effective communication, cultural understanding, and social integration at local level, nationally; the curriculum helps in strengthening the language diversity and inclusive education.  Globally they facilitate cross cultural exchanges and to grab opportunities in business.

 Exposure to international perspectives and global issues in BA-THP courses can enhance students’ global awareness and understanding. Study of Telugu literature enhances students morals & ethics which influence individual character building, delivering their duties towards their family & society. Department of Telugu offers Special Telugu course in BA with the combination of History and Politics (THP). From 2023 Department offered Minor Telugu course.  From 2016 onwards department is offering Post Graduation course in Telugu (M.A). 

BA, B.Com & B.Sc. students can opt General Telugu as a second language

Eligibility

Pass in Intermediate examination with any group.

Infrastructure facilities:

The department is well established with class rooms, a staff room, Department Library and other necessary equipment to conduct seminars and workshops.

Diverse employment opportunities are available for the Graduates & Post Graduates in Telugu in Public & Private Sectors i.e., Teaching, Media- Anchoring as Script Writers, Translators, News Readers .and in Administrative Depts.
