                                 WELCOME TO BOTANY DEPARTMENT       

History of Botany

The Department of Botany is as old as the establishment of the institution itself. In short, it is a 54-year-old department established in 1963. Department Occupies built up area 490.82 Sq.m.


The Department was headed by stalwarts like Smt N. Sarojini Sastry, Smt Y. Lalitha Devi, Sri V. Seshagiri Rao , Sri K.V.S Rama Koti, Smt R. K. Meenakshi, Smt V. Naga Mani , Smt K. Rajani Kumari , Smt B. Visalakshi worked with this Department.

Dept Present strength of the students is nearly 170 . The department has got two well established labs.

She  is the recipient of Yuvatarangam three State I Award for excellence in Botany. She is felicitated with medals and prize by Hon’ble Commisioner of Collegiate Education , A.P for the year 2013-14.

  • V. Praveena , B.SC CBMB got First Rank at District Level Rank in Botany in University Examinations during the academic year 2014-15. She is the recipient of YuvatarangamDistrict I Award for excellence in Botany.  She is felicitated with a medal and prize for the year 2014-15.

  • N. Leela  Pavitra got I  prize in International Seminar for Poster presentation on “ Cellular Stress” held at Rajahmundry Govt Degree College, during 2016-17 academic year.

  • D. Keerthana B.Sc , BZC  got II prize in International Seminar for Poster presentation on “ Cellular Stress”held at Rajahmundry Govt Degree College  during 2016-17 academic year.

  • Ms P. Durga and Ms . M. Lavanya got felicitated in Kakinada for their Academic excellence in Botany .

  • Students of Botany Department have participated in State , National and International Level Seminars , Conferences and presented their papers and Posters and won several Prizes .

 Best Practices of the Department 

  • Agricultural Extension activity Annually in fields of the Surrounding villages to Kakinada.( Collaboration with Agricultural Trading and Marketing Agency, Kakinada) and Department of Agriculture , Kakinada.

  • Department of Botany students as an Extension activity visits surrounding villages  interact with  local farmers and Agricultural officers on various issues of agriculture, identification and control of plant pests and helps in addressing the problems.

  • Department conducts Medicinal Plants Drive Annually

  • Regular Botanical tours

  • Conducting Interdisciplinary Workshops and seminars

  • Conducting workshops and extension activities win collaboration with Government Organizations like Department of Agriculture and Agricultural Trading Marketing Agency, Kakinada.

  • Training the students in skill oriented courses / certificate course like Nursery Management To make the students self reliant  providing them the  additional skills required  to grab the employment opportunities.

Future Plans

  • Planning to Introducing  Interdisciplinary undergraduate courses in near future .

  • To start Post Graduate Course M.Sc in near future.

  • To establish Tissue Culture laboratory

  • Updating the lab equipment , research facilities to conduct basic research and motivating  the students towards Research.

  • To develop ethno botanical and medicinal plant gardens

  • To organize herbarium of flora of East Godavari District.
