ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

  • One of the oldest department of this College, it is 61years old department, established in the year 1962.
  • Offering B.Sc Honours (Chemistry)  as  single major system and five other UG programmes M.P.C, B.Z.C, CBMB, CZAQUA, CBHC, one PG Course   and one Certificate course .
  •  Out of five sanctioned posts, at present three regular staff members, two having Ph.D, M.Sc., NET qualification with research experience, one with M.Sc., SET qualification and one Contract  faculty are working in the department.  
  • One of the faculty has research guideship in Adikavi Nannaya University and University allotted two research scholars under her guidance.
  • At present, the department caters the education needs of nearly 300 girl students at UG level. It serves 29.5% ST , 10.6% and 48.94% BC Category students .
  • Our dedicated faculty members are committed to enhancing student success through the adoption of student-centric learning pedagogies.
  • Utilizing ICT tools via LCD projectors and digital classrooms.
  • More than 10% of students going for higher studies in Chemistry and getting placements in various companies.
  • Adopting Microscale experiments, which involve conducting experiments on a small scale using reduced quantities of materials, offer several potential outcomes and benefits.
  • To disseminate and discuss recent advancements in Chemistry, the department hosts national and international seminars, workshops, conferences and student training programmes.
  • Regularly conducting field visits and study projects to fill gap between theory and practicals, enhance experiential and collaborative learning.
  • Guest and extension lectures are regularly arranged every year. 
  • Providing PGCET Coaching  & Career guidance to B.Sc students.
  • Department celebrates the days of National importance such as National Chemistryday, Science Day and Madam Curie Birthday and Ozoneday to ignite scientific temper among the students.
  •  Teacher counselling system supports to academically and sometimes financially poor students.
  • The department is actively involving outreach social activities like Lab to School, Mole day and joy of Giving etc...
  • Involvement of Faculty in Faculty development programmes, Content development for CCE-LMS shows commitment to continuous learning and improvement, ability to innovate and adapt to changing circumstances, technologies.
  • Providing academic extension to various Colleges as BOS subject experts, Paper Setters, Evaluators and Resource person in invited talks. 
  • To ignite research temper among students, community service projects are assigned to all students after completing second semester. Short term and long term internships assigned to all students after completing IV semester and VI semester respectively.
  • Department library is equipped with all modern books, which are useful to the students.  The library caters to the needs of poor students who cannot afford to buy their own books.
  • It has one functional MOU with Lord Venky Parentals.

  • Organized National Symposium on “Discovery of Periodic Table and Scientific Developments: The Incredible Contribution of Dmitri Mendeleev (IYPT-2019), under Dept. of Chemistry, ASD Govt. College for Women (A), Kakinada on 02nd Mar 2019.
  • Organized One-week Student Training Programme on “Isolation and Characterization of Organic Compounds” under Department of Chemistry, ASD Govt College for Women (A), Kakinada on 18-23 Dec 2019.
  • Facilitated One Day Workshop in Instrumentation methods on 9.1.2020.
  • Facilitated Two Day National Seminar on “Nuclear Science in Health and Environment (NSHE-2022) on 16-17 Mar 2022.
  • Organized One Day International Webinar on “Recent Advances in Drug discovery & Development” on 6.12.2023
  • Organized National Level Online Quiz on “General Awareness on Generic Drugs and Chemicals” on 15th May 2020, under Chemistry Department, ASD Govt. Degree College for Women (A), Kakinada, A.P. INDIA.
  • Organized National Level Online Quiz on “Role of Teacher and Teacher Competencies in Higher Education” on 20th May 2020, under IQAC, ASD Govt. Degree College for Women (A), Kakinada.
  • Facilitated One Day Workshop on “Instrumentation Analysis” on 9.6.2022 .
  • Organized One Day National Webinar on “Thermal Plasma Technology as a Potential Environmental Sustainable Solution for Muncipal Solid Waste Management.
  • Conducted National Quiz On the occasion of "Nobel Prize award ceremony” on 10th Dec 2023.
  • Conducted two Certificate Courses 1. Separation techniques for the Academic Year 2021-22.  2. Chemistry Molecular Modelling Software for the Academic Year 2022-23.
  • Adoptig Microscale experiments will lead to lesser consumption of Chemicals & Solvents, LPG, Water and other benefits include Lesser time to perform the experiments and pollution free environment. It obeys principles of Green Chemistry. In short the cost of running the Chemistry practical’s will come down by about 70%.
  • Dr D Chenna Rao published a paper on “Iron-Catalyzed Aerobic oxidative cleavage and Construction of C-N bonds: A Facile method for Synthesis of 2,4,6-Trisubstitued Pyridines” K Gopalaiah, D Chenna Rao, K Mahiya, A Tiwari Asian Journal of Organic Chemistry (AJOC). 2018, 7 (9), 1872- 1881.   • Received VIP Status to this paper and highlighted in Chem Views as “Oxidative Synthesis of Kr?hnke Pyridines” 09.10.2018. 
  • Dr Vadivelu Anantha Lakshmi published a paper on “Nanocobalt oxide for the adsorption of rare earth elements {la(iii) & nd(iii)} - adsorption isotherms and kinetics” in Sambodhi (UGC Care Journal), July-September (2020), ISSN: 2249-6661.

  • Dr. S. Priyadarshini, submitted Major Research Project entitled “Palladium/Copper Catalyzed Regioselective Decarboxylative Cross-Coupling of Alkenyl Acids with Purines/Pyrimidines/Nucleosides” to Science and Engineering Research Board under the scheme SERB - POWER and the proposal was accepted by the screening committee for stage 2 evaluation.   • Dr K.   • Dr K. Jhansi Lakshmi certified with silver Elite in NPTEL Online certification 8 weeks course in Chemical applications of Symmetry and Group theory  from Jan-march 2022
  • Dr D Chenna Rao acted as Jury for 26th National Children’s Science Congress – 2018, Kakinada. 12 & 13th Nov 2018.
  • Dr. S. Priyadarshini acted as Jury for 30th National CHILDREN’S SCIENCE CONGRESS, held at Geetham (EM) High School, Kakinada 2022.
