Brief History of the Department

 The Department of Political Science was established in 1962 with the combination of History, Economics and Political Science. The Department has one sanctioned post since 1970 under G.O. Ms No.594 dated 17.03.1970. Since inception, the department has good student enrollment and has a great success in securing good results every year.  The department provides guidance to the students in pursuing their higher education and prepares them for competitive examinations. The faculty constantly upgrade the knowledge and skills by attending seminars, workshops and Faculty Development Programmes.

Curriculum delivery is well planned at the beginning of every semester through Semester-wise Curricular Plans including curricular and cocurricular activities. These plans are implemented scrupulously.  In addition to regular teaching, the department is actively involved in conducting seminars, Assignments, Class tests, group discussions, Quizzes and debates to promote skill development. After the completion of admissions process, Orientation program is conducted to First year students. Bridge Course is offered to update the knowledge levels of students. Question banks and model question papers are made available to the students in the department for ready reference. Guest lectures are arranged regularly, to enhance the knowledge of students.

Students are categorised in to Advanced, Moderate and Slow Learners based on the performance in classroom and in first Internal examinations. Advanced learners are given project works and encouraged to participate in Seminars/ Workshops conducted by other Institutions. Moderate learners are additional assignments. Slow Learners are provided with proper couselling and guidance. Remedial coaching is offered to help them in getting through the examinations. The department adopted continuous Internal Assessment of the students through Internal examinations, assignments, student seminars and their participation in extra-curricular activities.

There are 100 books available in the department Library for the benefit of the students and an issue register is maintained. Students are motivated to develop the habit of reading books, journals and e- resources available, in order to update their knowledge in Political Science and make them involve in all the activities / competitions conducted at college/ District/ State Level.

Programmes offered: 

  1. BA -HEP (History, Economics, Political Science) upto 2022-23 under three major system.
  2. B.A (Honours) Political Science from 2023-24 under Single Major System.
