Brief History of the Department

 The Department of History was established in 1962 with the combination of History, Economics and Political Science. The Department has two sanctioned posts since 1970  under G.O. Ms No.594 dated 17.03.1970 and  two faculty are working in the posts.

The Department has a great success in Securing good results every year.  The lecturers Of the department guide the students in pursuing their higher education and prepare them to write competitive examinations. The faculty of the department attend seminars, workshops and training programs conducted at various places as a part of Faculty Development Programme.

Continuous Assessment and support:

 The department emphasizes continuous assessment and provides students with resources like Question Banks and Model papers to aid their preparation. To reinforce learning, the Department conducts review sessions at the end of each academic year.                                   Since inception the department has  attained good number in enrollment of students especially in History.

Activities taken by the Department:

 At the time of completion of the 3-year degree programme special coaching is given to students for writing  PG SET in History  as a part of career guidance which is helping the students to secure seats in the state universities. Apart from curricular activities the department  conducts co-curricular activities like Quiz Programmes, Group Discussions. Debates to encourage the students develop  confidence and acquire knowledge in the subject to continue further studies. Faculty always motivate the students in developing the habit of reading books and provides journals related to latest Historical events  in the Department library in order  to update their knowledge in history and make the students involve in all the activities / competitions conducted at College level or District/ State Level.

Research information: Ms. Y. Sita Maha Lakshmi is pursuing her Ph. D from Acharya

                                          Nagarjuna University, Guntur.

Infrastructure facilities: Two Iron Almirahs are available in the department for  Maintenance of books in the department Library. A  system

along with printer is provided to the Department.

Library information: There are 100 books available in the department Library for the benefit   of the students and an issue register for books is also maintained.

Employment opportunities: Students appear for P. G, B.Ed. etc. Entrance Exams. Employment  is provided through JKC campus Drives.

 TEACHING PRACTICES

Annual Academic Plan is prepared at the beginning of every academic year and the faculty follow the annual plan in completing  the syllabus and conduct of activities. The department conducts regular teaching, seminars, give  Assignments,  monthly tests and also conducts  group discussions, Quiz and debates as a teaching practice.

Students are divided into 3 groups like one is Bright students group of BA I, II, III year. Project works are given to this group. Second one is Av below average group. Seminars are given to this group.  and   third one is Below Average group assignments are given to this group and for those who scored less than 45%  & 50% special coaching or remedial coaching  is given to those students. Guest lectures are arranged regularly,  at least two in a year to enhance the knowledge of students.

After admissions process orientation program is conducted to First year History students and continuous evaluation is also done through conducting Tests, assignment etc.  Question banks and number of model papers are made available to the students n the department for ready reference.
