DEPARTMENT PROFILE

About the Department:

 The Department of History was established in 1962 with the combination of History, Economics and Political Science. The Department has two sanctioned posts since 1970  under G.O. Ms No.594 dated 17.03.1970 and  two faculty are working in the posts. The Department has a great success in securing good results every year.  The lecturers of the department guide the students in pursuing their higher education and prepare them to write competitive examinations. The faculty attend seminars, workshops and Faculty Development Programmes to upgrade their knowledge.

Semester-wise, Course-wise curricular Plans are prepared at the beginning of every academic year and they are implemented scrupulously. In addition to the regular teaching, the department also conducts student seminars, Assignments,  Class tests, group discussions, Quizzes and debates to foster various skills. Guest lectures are arranged to enhance the knowledge of students. Study material, Question banks and model papers are made available to the students for reference. Department has Departmental Library for the benefit of the students and an issue register is maintained. Faculty motivate the students in developing the habit of reading books and journals related to History, in order  to update their knowledge and make the students involve in all the activities / competitions conducted at college/ District/ State Level.

After the completion of the admission process, an induction/orientation program is conducted for newly admitted students to help them adjust to the new academic and social environment. A bridge course is conducted to bridge the knowledge gaps and help students gain the necessary foundational knowledge required for their academic program.

Continuous Internal Assessment is done through Mid semester exams, particiaption student seminars, Assignments and extracurricular activities. Based on the performance in classroom and in I Mid exams, students are catagorised into advanced, moderate and slow learners. Advanced learners are encouraged to take up peer teaching, participate in seminars, workshops, competitions etc. Moderate learners are given internet based assignments. Remedial coaching is given to slow learners to enhance their performance in examinations. The department facilitates student progression by providing coaching/ guidance for PGCET, EdCET and other competitive examinations.                                                                           

Programmes offered:

  1. BA HEP (History, Economics, Political Science) upto 2022-23 under Common Core System.
  2. History is being offered as Minor Course from 2023-24 onwards.
  3. B.A  (Honours) History from 2024-25 under Single Major system.
