Welcome to Physics Department

HISTORY OF PHYSICS

The department of Physics is one of the oldest departments of A.S.D. Govt. Degree College for Women, Kakinada established in the year 1963. The department is located in the midst of college campus. The department is well equipped with the necessary infrastructure, facilities and experienced faculty members to impart the quality education to young Graduates

Physics is the natural science that involves the study of matter and its motion through space and time, along with related concepts such as energy and force. More broadly, it is the general analysis of nature, conducted in order to understand how the universe behaves.Works

Physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines, perhaps the oldest through its inclusion of astronomy. Over the last two millennia, physics was a part of natural philosophy along with chemistry, certain branches of mathematics, and biology, but during the Scientific Revolution in the 17th century, the natural sciences emerged as unique research programs in their own right. Physics intersects with many interdisciplinary areas of research, such as biophysics and quantum chemistry,Quantum Computing and the boundaries of physics are not rigidly defined. New ideas in physics often explain the fundamental mechanisms of other sciences while opening new avenues of research in areas such as mathematics and philosophy.

Physics also makes significant contributions through advances in new technologies that arise from theoretical breakthroughs. For example, advances in the understanding of electromagnetism or nuclear physics led directly to the development of new products which have dramatically transformed modern-day society, such as television, computers, domestic appliances, and nuclear weapons; advances in thermodynamics led to the development of industrialization, and advances in mechanics inspired the development of calculus.

Infrastructure facilities

The department of Physics has got two laboratories with all necessary equipment to conduct practical for the students to understand the concepts easily. The department is having a library with required number of volumes of books along with educational CDs as a support to the students’ learning process. Further, a generator is provided for uninterrupted power supply.

Employment Opportunities

With Mathematics, Computer combination Physics students are most preferred in IT industry today. Physics degree students are best achievers in the competitive examinations such as Banking recruitment, Civils, Public Service Commission (APPSC) Groups etc.

Mathematics and Chemistry is the best combination for higher progression. Students can pursue post graduation in any of these subjects; Likewise B. Ed., M.B.A, M.C.A. etc and provides an opportunity to settle down in their lives in higher positions with a colorful way.

Recent Activities

Apart from regular academics, the activities like Seminars, Guest lectures, and competitions such as quizzes etc will be conducted periodically to generate interest, to increase the creativity and to boost the morale of students and staff members. The activities conducted during the academic year 2013-14 are:

1. The department of Physics conducted essay writing competition to B. Sc. (Physics) students on the topic “Satellites and their applications to mankind”, to create interest in space research among the students.

2. The department of Physics conducted Quiz competition to B. Sc. (Physics) students on “General Physics”, to create scientific awareness among students.

3. The department of Physics organized a Guest lecture by Sri P. Lakshmana Rao, Lecturer in Physics, Govt. Degree College, Pithapuram.

Library Information

The library consists different titles in the areas Physics and around 1200 (Twelve hundred) volumes of books are available.
