Name of the committee: National service scheme (NSS)

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. From its inception, more than 3.75 cores students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers.

Motto of NSS: Not me but you

The motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU” which reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the needs for selfless service.

Aim of NSS

It aims at the involvement mainly of undergraduate students on a voluntary basis in various activities of social serviced and national development which while making a contribution to socio-economic progress would also provide opportunities to the students to understand and appreciate the problems of the communities, awaken social consciousness and inculcate in them sense of dignity of labour. There has been a great deal of enthusiasm among the students in various programmers taken up under the scheme. At the same time, there has been a demand from several quarters that opportunity should be provided to the youth going out of the universities and colleges to engage themselves on a whole time basis for a specific period in activities of social and national service.

  • The College has two units of NSS  about 200 students are involved in the NSS activities under the guidance of two trained programme  officers.
  • The National Service Scheme   popularly known as NSS was launched in Mahatma Gandhiji’s centenary year 1969.
  • The main aim of NSS   is to develop student’s personality through community service and to inculcate the sense of nation building.

NSS Recent Activities

Activities of  NSS for the academic year 2017-18 are as follows

  1. Yoga Day was conducted on 21st June 2017 on the eve of International Yoga Day.
  2.  On July 29th 2017, Vanam Manam programme was organized in the college in which massive plantation was done in the campus.
  3. On 1Aug 2017, Swatchbharath Programmes was conducted for the Junior volunteers about the aims, objectives and activities of NSS. On 4thAugust, A Rally was organized in the community on Swach bharath.
  4. On 17th September volunteers participated in Coastal cleanup at vakalapudi beach on the eve of International Coastal Cleanup day.100 volunteers participated in the camp which was inaugurated by the District Collector.
  5. From November2017 to February 2018. volunteers participated in “ODF SURVEY” At Municipal Corporation  At Kakinada (Rural)
  6. An awareness programme was conducted in the community on swatch bharath by the POS and volunteers
  7. From 13-9-2017 to 15-9-2017, 50 volunteers participated in “Training in  First Aid” conducted by Indian Red Cross Association, Kakinada
  8. An awareness programme was conducted in the community on swatch bharath by the POS and volunteers.
  9. NSS volunteers regularly participate in plantation programme conducted by an NGO  “ALL is Well” which is an active NGO working to make Kakinada Green
  10. On 01-12-2018, Aids Ralley programme was organized in the Pr Govt Degree college campus in which Honorable mayor of  Kakinada,Smt S.Pavani. More Than 50 Volunteers Participated.
  11. From 02-01-2018 to 11-01-2018, Janmabhoomi Programme was conducted at Kovvuru village.
  12. Blood Donation Camp Conducted On 3-1-2018.
  13. On 25th January, national voters day was organized in our college campus all volunteers participated and expressed their opinion on the eve of voters day.
  14. February 6th and 7th eye camp was conducted for the college students in collaboration with vasan eye care Kakinada.
  15. NSS volunteers participated in she teams Inauguration on 10-3-2018 at Kakinada and they participate in 2k run.


Activities of  NSS for the academic year 2016-17 are as follows

1.   Yoga Day was conducted on 21st June 2016 on the eve of International Yoga Day.Resource persons from AYUSH enlightened the volunteers about the importance of yoga and taught the basic yogasanas.

2.   July 29th  2016 ,Vanam Manam programme was organized in the college in which massive plantation was done in the campus.

3.   On 31st July 2016 , volunteers participated in a Free health camp organized by HOPE hospitals, Kakinada at Durga Prasad School, jagannaickpur, Kakinada. Nearly 20 students participated 

4.   6th Aug 2016 ,Orientation was conducted for the Junior volunteers about the aims ,objectives and activities of NSS. Resource person was Dr.Ramana Murthy, NSS PO,MSN Degree College ,Kakinada

5.   31st August, A Rally was organized in the community on  Swach bharat

6.   30th August ,A guest lecture was given by Mr.Premchand , member ALL is Well ,an NGO on Swach Bharat and the role of students in educating the community

7.   17th September volunteers participated in Coastal cleanup at vakalapudi beach on the eve of International Coastal Cleanup day.100 volunteers participated in the camp which was inaugurated by the District Collector    Mr.Arun Kumar

8.   1st October on the occasion of Blood Donation day, a guest lecture was organized on importance of blood donation. Dr.Ramana Rao ,Kusuma Clinic Kakinada educated volunteers about the composition of   blood, various blood groups,    

9.   Eligibility for donation of blood etc.120 volunteers participated in the programme

10.               22-9-2016 to 15-9-2016, four  volunteers participated in “Training in  First Aid” conducted by Indian Red Cross Association, Kakinada

11.               24-9-2016,Domalapai Dandayatra programme was organized in the college campus in which Honorable MLA of Kakinada,Sri Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao and Municipal Commissioner ,sri S.Aleem basha  and the        Principal of the College educated the volunteers about the maintenance of healthy surroundings in order to avoid mosquito breeding and thus avoid mosquito borne diseases

12.               08-02-2017 to 14-02-2017, NSS Special Camp was conducted in the campus with campus beautification theme.

Activities of for the academic year 2015-16 are as follows

1.   20-6-2015, Work shop on Yoga was conducted on the occasion of International Yoga Day in which the volunteers were enlightened on the importance of yoga in daily life and its health benefits.

2.   02-8-2015, on the eve of International Youth Day, a sensitization programme on HIV/AIDS was organized. As a part of this programme, ICTC Supervisor, P. Buchibabu and Counsellor   Smt.K. Nagamani were deputed from Department of Medical, Health and Family Welfare. They have sensitized the volunteers about the causes, treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. They have also educated the volunteers how to educate the community on the same.

3.   10-9-2015, Personality development programme by Smt. Jyothi Sridhar, Member, JCI International .She has conducted an interactive session with the students about “soft Skills, Leadership and How to win the situations”

4.   19-9-2015, 100 Volunteers participated in Beach Cleanup Programme along with Indian Coast Guard at Vakalapudi beach.

5.   24-9-2015, NSS foundation Day celebrations, DR.K.Niroopa presented a lecture on “Composition of Blood and Importance of Blood Donation”. On the same day, “Donate a Handful of Rice” was inaugurated in which the staff and the students of the college donate the rice

6.   2-10-2015, Swatch Bharat Programme was inaugurated and the volunteers cleaned the campus and the surroundings.

7.   4-10-2015, as a part of swatch Bharat, Church compound was cleaned and plantation was done.

8.   6-10-2015,volunteers participated in “Poster Removal” programme at Toorangi along with volunteers of NGO , “All Is Well”

9.   9-10-2015, blood grouping and blood donation Camp was organized in which blood grouping was conducted for nearly 300 students and nearly 20 members (staff and students) donated blood in collaboration with Rotary Blood Bank, Kakinada .Additional District medical & Health Officer, DR.P.Pavan Kumar addressed the volunteers on Blood Donation importance and also diet to be taken during adolescence.

10.               31-10-2015, Rastriya Ekta Divas was celebrated on Birth Centenary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel .Volunteers were enlightened on the biography of Sardar Vallabhai Patel and his contributions to freedom movement.

11.               1-12-2-15, participated in AIDS Rally inaugurated by MLA,Kakinada Rural Sri Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao from  PR College

12.               15-12-2015, organized training programme for NSS volunteers on conducting smart city survey.Dty Municipal Commissioner, S.Sanyasi Rao and Public Relation Officer P. Bhaskar Rao

13.               From 17-12-2015 to 23-12-2015, Special camp was organized at Mahalakshminagar, Kakinada.

14.               23-1-2016, organized one day work shop on “First Aid” in collaboration with “Indian Red Cross Association” .K.Dharma Rao, Regional Coordinator, K.Dharma Rao, Indian Red Cross Association, Kakinada trained the students on how to give First Aid to the needy during accidents, drowning and natural calamities through demonstration method. A First Aid kit was presented to the college by P.Dhanunjaya Rao, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Association.

Activities of  NSS for the academic year 2014-15 are as follows

1.   ·On 22-07-14, Orientation programme was conducted for the Junior volunteers enrolled in 2014-15 regarding the aims,objectives and motto of NSS Programme

2.   ·10-09-14, 10 Junior volunteers  attended work Shop on Ethics and Values at MSN Degree College,Kakinada

3.   ·17-09-14, 10 Junior volunteers  attended work Shop on Ethics and Values at Ideal College of Arts&Sciences,Kakinada

4.   ·On 19-09-2014, 6 volunteers participate in the various competetions conducted as a part of youth festival and won prizes in Essay writing,elocution,solo song and poster presentation

5.   ·20-09-14, On the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day,Volunteers participated in the Coastal cleanup at Vakalapudi beach,Kakinada

  1. ·10-11-14, NSS volunteers collected an amount of Rs.4500/- and donated it for the treatment of a child suffering from Blood Cancer
  2. ·18-11-14, To inculcate generosity among students and social service motive among the students and staff ,all the students and staff were requested to  donate a handful of rice a day which will be donated to Old age homes and orphanages
  3. · 24-11-14, A guest lecture was arranged for the NSS and Red Ribbon Club volunteers to create awareness on importance af blood donation who will inturn motivate other students to donate blood voluntarily.Dr.Ramana Rao,Kusuma Nursing Home ,Kakinada delivered  the lecture
  4. · 25-11-14, A Blood Grouping and Blood Donation Camp was conducted in the college in which Blood Groping was done for 400 volunteers incollaboration with Rotary Blood Bank and 50 students donated the blood         01-12-14, Nearly 100 NSS and Red Ribbon Club volunteers participated in the Rally at Bhanugudi Circle and also in the slums in the sorroundings of the college.A community awareness programme was also conducted by visiting Door to Door and distributing pamphlets on HIV /AIDS and its prevention.


Activities of  NSS for the academic year 2014-15 are as follows

  1. 24-06-13 refresher   class was conducted for II &III year degree students about NSS activities for the academic year 2013-14.
  2. 27-07-13 Junior volunteers were enrolled and the list was sent to the NSS  Co-ordinator , Andhra university.
  3. 20-08-13 Orientation was given  to Junior volunteers
  4.  25-09-13 NSS day was celebrated in the college campus, competitions were conducted and cultural programmes were organized for  the NSS volunteers
  5. 16-11-13 Red ribbon club was formed and volunteers were enrolled  for Red ribbon club activities.
  6. 1-12-13 A rally was conducted in the village on “AIDS and its prevention”.
  7. 13-12-13 NSS volunteers attended and participated in NSS youth festival at chaitanya PG college, Kakinada.
  8. 07-01-14 Guest lecture was arranged on HIV AIDS. Resource persons Smt.K.Eswari and Smt.Venkata Lakshmi from “Coastal Network of Positive people” an NGO delivered a lecture on “HIV & AIDS” and shared some case studies of HIV positive people.
  9. 08-01-14 a free medical camp was organized in the premises of Panchayat office ,Chollangi ,Adopted village in collaboration with Lions Club, Kakinada.Dr.P.Lakshmi, General physician has examined the general health status of the villagers of chollangi village and free medicines were distributed.
  10. 10-01-14 a rally was organized on “Plastic and its detrimental effects” and students created awareness to the villagers on ill effects of plastic
  11. 11-01-14 Sramadanam was done by the volunteers in which they have white washed the school building and also cleaned the premises of the school building.
  12. From 22-01-14 to 28-01-14 NSS volunteers participated in Self defence programme organized by the District NSS co-ordinator Dr. Krishna Rao at ASDGDC(W), Kakinada.
  13. 23-01-14 Blood grouping and Blood donation programme was organized within the campus with the help of Rotary Blood Bank, Kakinada.
  14. 26-01-14 NSS Volunteers distributed writing pads to the school children in the adopted village Chollangi agraharam
  15. From 07-02-14 to 13-02-14 NSS volunteers participated in Mega camp organized by Andhra university at Rangaraya medical college, Kakinada. Volunteers participated in campus cleaning, blood donation, plantation, rally and medical camp.
